Did the Doctor Kill the Doctor? Beverly Hills Police Say, "Absolutely"

A Rodeo Drive anesthesiologist was taken off to jail yesterday, arrested for the death of a patient who incurred a lethal overdose during a cosmetic operation.

According to the L A. County District Attorney's office, Doctor Stephen K Kim, age 53, is believed to have administered a fatal dose of Demerol, a powerful synthetic narcotic, to a patient undergoing a surgery at the Rodeo Drive Plastic Surgery Center in Beverly Hills.

The patient was himself a physician by the name of Doctor Mark Greenspan.

The District Attorney's office reported that Kim is also believed to have been under the influence of drugs himself, at the time he was treating the unconscious patient. Beverly Hills detectives determined that Kim was without a doubt under the influence of narcotics at the time of the operation.

The incident occurred on September 26, when Beverly Hills Police and Fire responded to a medical emergency at Rodeo Drive Plastic Surgery, after receiving a 911 call that a patient was not breathing.

The 71-year-old patient, Doctor Mark Greenspan, underwent surgery that morning and stopped breathing during recovery.

Although it does not happen often enough, errant physicians in these circumstances have been convicted in the past.

Doctor Hsiu-Ying "Lisa" Tseng was found guilty of Second-Degree Murder in the overdosing of 3 outpatients in Los Angeles County in 2015. But investigators found that Tseng actually had 8 other patients die from overdoses she had prescribed. Tseng's case is believed to be the first time in the U.S. that a physician was convicted of murder for recklessly prescribing narcotics to patients.

In the most infamous case in U.S. history in 2011, Michael Jackson's live-in drug dealer, Doctor Conrad Murray, was found guilty of Involuntary Manslaughter for his reckless administration of the surgical IV anesthetic Propofol, which killed the legendary singer.

Kim could get a sentence of 25 years in prison, although we can assure you he won't.
